How Tim Quit Smoking & Lost Weight with the CBQ Program: Advice on Freedom, Mindset & Change

by Nasia Davos

Ask an Ex episode #36! In this interview, we’re welcoming the inspiring go-getter Tim Roberts from Queensland, Australia, who quit smoking with the Cognitive Behavioral Quitting (CBQ) Program on July 8, 2022. His transformation has been nothing short of incredible.

Tim smoked his first cigarette when he was 14 years old and smoked on and off for over 50 years. Throughout life, he also became addicted to alcohol and food. He was a “perfectionist emotional cripple,” and vices became his go-to coping mechanism. Even though Tim eventually quit alcohol, he could not let go of cigarettes.

When Tim was ready to quit smoking, he joined the CBQ Program and became a happy non-smoker. Soon after his quit date, Tim used the CBQ Program also to change his relationship with food and lost 28kg (60 pounds)!

In this episode, Tim openly and generously shares his journey, including:

  • Why deprivation is the antithesis of the recovery.
  • Lessons from his past attempts to quit smoking.
  • Why he could not quit smoking in the past, even though he had very important reasons to stop.
  • How to best do the CBQ Program.
  • Why yoyo diets and fad diets caused him to gain weight.
  • How Tim used the CBQ Program to change his relationship with food and remove his food addiction mindset.
  • What type of diet change worked for him.
  • Tim’s reasons for choosing the CBQ Program over other approaches.
  • And special wisdom and advice for anyone struggling to quit smoking.

Tune in to be inspired and gather valuable insights that could help you or someone you know to become smoke-free. Enjoy!

Celebrating YOU: This week’s spotlights [May 15, 2024]

by Nasia Davos

Happy “Spotlight Day”! I’m excited to share with you this week’s most inspiring success stories and tips from the CBQ community. Today’s stories are packed with inspiration!

Inspiring Milestone

This week, CBQ Program member Dory Johnson from Colorado, US, celebrated 3 years nicotine-free! Dory started using the nicotine gum while trying to quit smoking. Instead of breaking free, she remained addicted to the nicotine gum for 14 years. For 14 years, Dory promised herself she’d quit but kept on chewing.

3 years ago, Dory came across the CBQ Program and decided to join. This changed everything for her. “CBQ Method turned my world upside down. This method steps, were uncoiling a matrix of thoughts, beliefs, shames, traumas, faux rewards, smoke and mirrors and really really altering my body’s bio-chemistry. She went in at each angle to help me unhook my relationship to nicotine.”

“If you are this path- I commend you. I did not know I could do it and here I am smiling at you with my certificate and drinking my coffee.”

3 years later, Dory is still nicotine-free and happy!

Tip of the Week

This week’s tip comes from CBQ Program member Melissa Budworth from Queensland, Australia, who has been a happy non-smoker for over a year now. All her life, Melissa was told she had an addictive personality but she proved everyone (including herself) wrong. She broke free from smoking and it was easier than she ever thought possible. As an added bonus, since quitting smoking she has saved over AUD$15,000!

Melissa’s tip: All you have to do is commit.

“I purchased the program and only made it to day 5. I can’t remember the excuse I used to stop mid way. I “tried” again about a month later and made it to day 7. It was simply fear of failing for me. About a year after buying the CBQ program I was so annoyed and disappointed with myself the same as you are feeling. Finally I just committed to completing the program and trying my best. That was all I had to do. Commit! smoked my last cigarette on February 4th 2023. It was so much easier than I thought it could ever be. I smoked for 40 years and never thought I could quit.

If I can do it…..so can you.”

Inspiring Commitment

Since our last newsletter, CBQ Program member Paula Gibson from Ontario, Canada, celebrated 1 year smoke-free. Paula broke a 45-year addiction and completely transformed her relationship with smoking. When she was 4 months smoke-free, she lost her beloved mom and despite the grief and stress that came with this loss, Paula never turned to smoking because, as she told me, she had completely reprogrammed her mind. Paula knew smoking would do nothing to help her.

1 year later, Paula is happy and looks back at her “life changing” success.

Inspiring Success

Two days ago, CBQ Program member Erin Langan from Pennsylvania, US, celebrated 2 years smoke-free! Erin was convinced she’ll never quit smoking let alone feel content or happy without it! After lots of research and thinking, she decided to give the CBQ Program a proper shot and to her surprise, she made it! This is what Erin said: “I have tried many different methods to quit in the past but nothing worked. I’m so glad I found CBQ.”.. “I never thought I would make it through the first 24 hours.” Now Erin is 2 years smoke-free!

This is Erin with her CBQ Success Certificate that she shared hoping “it will help current smokers feel motivated to break free from their addiction.”

As always, I want to say a big thank you to all our members who gave me permission to share their stories.

Celebrating YOU: This week’s spotlights [April 10, 2024]

by Nasia Davos

Happy “Spotlight Day”! Today we’re shining the spotlight on this week’s most inspiring success stories and tips from the CBQ community.

This week, I’m sharing incredible stories and tips from our members, so let’s dive in!

Inspiring Story

Meet CBQ Program member Sharon Pinto from Ontario, Canada, who has been smoke-free since February 28, 2022. Over 2 years! But her journey to success wasn’t a straight line. She smoked for 27 years and tried to quit many times before becoming a happy non-smoker.

In this new Ask An Ex interview, Sharon openly shares her life, what caused her to fail in the past, and what she learned from each attempt. Above all, she is sharing what changes she made this time and her biggest aha moments with the CBQ Program that helped her succeed! Watch Sharon sharing her story here:

Inspiring Transformation

Today, CBQ Program member Amanda Young from Florida, US, is celebrating 2 years smoke-free! 2 years ago, quitting smoking seemed out of reach. But Amanda joined the CBQ Program and broke free! In her own words “Thank you for reaching out at this 2nd anniversary! God blessed me when I found your program because it gave me the tools I needed to live a better life and break the chains of smoking. I share your method with anyone who is going through the struggle. Thank you for helping lead me to a better lifestyle that once seemed so far out of reach!”

Inspiring Milestone

This week, CBQ Program member Evelyn Neiman Green from North Carolina, US, celebrated 5 years smoke-free! Evelyn was a smoker for 40 years. Her husband also smoked.

As Evelyn told me herself, she had tried to quit before using nicotine patches and e-cigarettes but she always went back to smoking. Her husband went from smoking to vaping and still does both.

That’s how Evelyn knew she needed something different: a process. She joined the CBQ Program, did every step of the process and broke free from nicotine even though her husband smokes. 5 years later, Evelyn is doing so well she even forgot how long she’d been a non-smoker! She also found the right diet for her, and has improved her life in every way! Incredible story!

Tip of The Week

This week’s tip comes from CBQ Program member Bill Coffey from Ohio, US, who quit a month ago, on March 10, 2024… after smoking for 50 years.

Bill was no stranger to failed attempts, but this time, it felt different, and it was, as he said, easier than he ever expected!

Bill’s Tip: Believe change is possible for you.

“I wasn’t aware of the name for what I needed, but I was very sure that what I needed to be a successful non-smoker was to get my thinking in the right place. I believed that from the start.

While going through the process, I made sure that I understood each step and tried to form some idea of how I could use what I learned. Then and only then I moved forward to the next step. Follow the program, do the exercises with an open and honest mind. Everyone is different, so do the program in your own time.

I’m 26 days smoke free, and it has truly been way easier than I ever expected. This program supplied exactly what I needed and I believe it matches what you have confidence in also.

The hardest part is HONESTLY and TRUELY believing what you are changing about your thoughts. Once you have that, you are done being a smoker and have all the tools to stay that way.

Best of luck to you on your journey. You will be counting your non-smoking days soon enough.”

Tip of the Week by Bill Coffey

As always, a big thank you goes out to all of our amazing members who gave me permission to share their stories with you.
