Celebrating YOU: This week’s spotlights [March 5, 2025]

by Nasia Davos

Happy “Spotlight Day” & Happy March!

Today, I’m excited to share with you some of this week’s most inspiring success stories and tips from the CBQ community.

Let’s dive in!

Inspiring Milestone

This week, CBQ Program member Katia Massey from the UK celebrated 4 years vape-free! Katia used to smoke, and in an attempt to quit, she switched to vaping. As she told me herself during our interview, vaping was more addictive and became an inseparable part of her life for years. She couldn’t do anything or go anywhere without it. On top of that, she felt intense guilt and health anxiety because she vaped non-stop. Every attempt to quit made Katia feel deprived and turn to emotional eating, and she hated that.

Katia knew she had to try something different, and the CBQ Program was different. After completing the process, she stopped seeing vaping as something of value and broke the hand-mouth habit.

4 years later, Katia is still a happy non-vaper and enjoys her life with her husband!

Inspiring Success

Two days ago, CBQ Program member Lisa Kolden Schlichting from North Dakota, US, celebrated 2 years smoke-free! 2 years ago, Lisa was terrified of quitting smoking. She said “My biggest fear was that I would change and become angry and resentful as I did during past cessation attempts.” A smoker of over 35 years, every time she tried to quit she felt deprived and unhappy. After researching online and attending a CBQ webinar, Lisa decided to join the CBQ Program, did every step and succeeded! This is the first time she feels good without cigarettes. In her own words, “This time was completely different because this program helped me be a happy non-smoker, not a deprived smoker. 🙂 Thank you, thank you, thank you!”

Happy “Spotlight Day”!

Today, I’m excited to share with you some of this week’s most inspiring success stories and tips from the CBQ community.

Let’s dive in!

Inspiring Milestone

This week, CBQ Program member Deborah Lemmer from Colorado, US, celebrated 3 years smoke-free! Deborah quit smoking just before turning 60 years old, and changing her mindset was the key to success.

She was skeptical about investing in something online (which makes so much sense especially in today’s world!) but she knew she can trust the CBQ, took a leap of faith, and she’s now free!

Three years ago, Deborah did not believe she could live without cigarettes. Now, she says, “I marvel at how easy it really was.”

Deborah’s tips and what she learned from the CBQ Program

  • You don’t need a special date to quit smoking. Your quit date will become special once you succeed.
  • How to face challenges as a non-smoker and find it easy: Remember your thoughts trick your emotions into feeling you’re missing something, but you can change those thought patterns.
  • If smoking does not align with your values and what’s important to you in life, then what’s holding you back is the limiting belief you can’t do it.
  • Every area in your life can be reprogrammed.
  • Live by the acronym “NOPE” – Not One Puff Ever.
  • If you’re starting out, remember you CAN do it.
  • Make peace with your smoker self. Don’t look back, look forward and celebrate freedom.
  • Choose freedom. (This is the statement every video in the CBQ program ends with, because freedom is a choice, and as Deborah said, it’s the best life ever.)

Inspiring Story

This week, CBQ Program member Darnelle Hurd from Michigan, United States shared in the CBQ Method Page about her success of 3 years!

Once a 50 year smoker, she now has zero desire to smoke!

Inspiring Milestone

Yesterday, CBQ Program member Sandy Haines from Texas, US, celebrated 3 years of freedom! Sandy used to smoke 1-2 packs every day for 49 years, and she wanted to share with you what helped the most on her journey and how she smoked her last cigarette.

In her own words, “My Freedom date was February 25, 2022. I am over-the-moon happy. I am still in awe that I was able to do this.”

“I had started to cut down and was smoking only 5 cigarettes per day for about a week and a half before I discovered the CBQ program. But it was all willpower and very difficult. I didn’t know how I was going to do it! I have just retired, so I have very little distraction.”

Sandy knew that joining the CBQ Program was the right step for her.

“I was frustrated that all the doctors say “quit smoking” but offer no help or suggestions. I am very impressed with this program and very grateful I discovered it. I love the wealth of information, the videos, the cigarette log, the Facebook group and everything about the program.

I had my last cigarette in the evening on my front porch, playing Taylor Swift’s “We are never ever getting back together”, I read my break-up letter to my girlfriend from dance class, we both cried and she filmed the event. I gave her all my cigarettes, lighters, and ashtrays to take home with her, and that was that. I was scared and nervous to go through the next day, but it ended up being fine just like Nasia said and I WAS happy! Who would have thought, right?”

3 years later, Sandy is still a happy non-smoker!

Happy “Spotlight Day”!

Today, I’m excited to share with you some of this week’s most inspiring success stories and tips from the CBQ community.

Let’s dive in!

Inspiring Milestone

This week, CBQ Program member Mal Collins from England, UK, celebrated three years smoke-free! Mal smoked her first cigarette at 15 and continued smoking until she was 54. She had quit in the past using nicotine patches but still missed cigarettes and eventually relapsed.

Following that attempt, Mal shared she “made many half-hearted attempts to quit but never succeeded. Until I found this program.”

At first, Mal doubted she would succeed: “I did wonder if I was destined to be in the small percentage of those who don’t manage to quit with the CBQ, but I have.”

She found quitting smoking easy!

Now, three years after her quit date, Mal is still a happy non-smoker! (Her family is still surprised she actually quit.)

For her three-year milestone, Mal re-shared with our members-only group the video of the ritual from her last cigarette!

Inspiring Success

This week, CBQ Program member Kelly Swingen from Wisconsin, US, celebrated 2 years smoke-free! A smoker for 50 years, she once believed that quitting smoking—and above all, being a happy non-smoker—was an impossible goal.

When Kelly found the CBQ Method on Facebook, she decided to gift herself the CBQ Program, hoping she could succeed. And she did!

After completing the CBQ Program, she went from “considering cigarettes to be my companion 24 hours a day” to feeling “surprised at how little I actually think about them.”

Kelly’s tip: Take your time and aim for progress not perfection

“I recently celebrated my 2 year anniversary of living a smoke-free life. I credit this solely with the CBQ program. I also had a problem feeling like I was not “getting it”. I was successful, but it took me much longer.

My mantra was progress not perfection. Please allow yourself grace. Continue to utilize this great support group. You will find that you are not alone. Move at your own speed. You will be successful.”

Happy “Spotlight Day”!

Today, I’m excited to share with you some of this week’s most inspiring success stories and tips from the CBQ community. Since it’s Valentine’s Day on Friday, today’s spotlights have the theme of self-love.

Inspiring Milestone

This week, CBQ Program member Shelley Dubros from Ontario, Canada celebrated 4 years smoke-free! Shelley quit smoking on 11 February 2021, she was 69 years old at the time. In her own words shared on the CBQ Method Success Page “…been smoking for 55 yrs …I’ve tried hypnosis, laser, Champix pills, all nicotine substitutes, acupuncture, willpower, you name it.. I worked this CBQ program and the fascinating thing is that I haven’t had the urge to smoke.” And her advice is to “work the program.. do the coursework.. diligently..CBQ is a gift”

4 years later, at 73, she’s loving her life. So much so, she had even forgotten about her quit date.

Tip Of The Week – From A Former Smoker of 47 Years

This week’s tip comes from CBQ Program member Jodi Woods who celebrated 5 years smoke-free this week! Jodi quit smoking on February 11, 2020. She’s now the moderator of the CBQ Program Members-Only Community, and over the last 5 years, she has helped thousands of members with her wisdom and insights. Her advice is always spot-on. Our community would just not be the same without her.

Below is a great piece of advice from Jodi about cravings that you can use right away 🙂

Jodi’s Tip on Cravings

“Cigarette cravings are just doing their job because we “trained” them to remind us to smoke when certain triggers are present. If you keep that in mind as you are retraining your brain with healthier responses to a craving, they will soon stop reminding you to reach for a cigarette. This is what the program helps you to do…..retrain your craving mind by using replacement activities instead of smoking.

Many former triggers became a thing of the past once I quit. I don’t get triggered at all anymore when I drive my car🚗 , have my coffee ☕️ , talk on the phone📱 , after a meal🥘 , etc. Thank You CBQ👍♥️

☑️One trick I would sometimes use, and this may help you too if you are 🔹currently trying to cut down, 🔹have recently quit, or even 🔹are getting close to quitting is this:

🤔 Think of that craving as an “imaginary child”. This child is whining and bugging you for a cookie🍪 or a lollipop 🍭. You will not give in because in the past that’s how the child behaved in order to get its way. The child knows if the whining goes on you will eventually give in. But you are trying something new!

Then, the crying gets a little louder and the child adds a little foot stomping. But, you are not going to let this child make you give in. You calmly breathe through this scene and remind them that crying will not do them any good. Finally, it’s a full out temper tantrum.

Who’s the boss? You are! Are you going to give in? No, because you are the adult in control and know what’s best. Besides, if you distract the child with something else the tantrum will be over soon.

What might seem like forever is really only about 10 minutes. The craving will go away whether you smoke or not, so stay in control and replace the smoking with something else…..deep breathing, meditation, distraction.

Mind power is greater than willpower.”

CBQ Program member Jodi Woods tip on managing smoking cravings

This is Jodi with her CBQ Success Certificate:

And this is what Jodi shared about her 5-year milestone:

“Nasia I really must thank you for all of your inspiration and guidance that has made it possible for me to now help others. I’m still grateful every single day that smoking can no longer control me and my entire day.

It’s really true about quitting being as easy as changing our relationship with smoking.

I think about smoking every day, almost all day long and yet I have absolutely no desire to smoke and can’t imagine any scenario that would ever lead me back to smoking.

Going from feeling ‘hopeless’ in all my former unsuccessful quit attempts to ‘hopeful’ when I came across your program, to being able to be ‘helpful’ now to others is truly an incredible feeling.

It’s my pleasure to share my learnings and past experiences with this community and it’s possible because of your amazing program, your past experiences and dedication, from one smoker to non smoker at a time. You’re changing so many lives”

Celebrating YOU: This week’s spotlights [February 5, 2025]

by Nasia Davos

Happy “Spotlight Day”! Today is the first Wednesday of February, and I can’t wait to share with you some of this week’s most inspiring success stories and the top tips from the CBQ community.

Let’s do it!

Inspiring Milestone

This week, CBQ Program member Joanne Campbell from England, UK, celebrated 3 years smoke-free! Jo was a smoker for 32 years and she said, “In the past I have tried to quit but as I said before it made me feel very depressed, having no self worth, what was the point in stopping smoking if I didn’t value my health or life.” Jo is not a stranger to life’s struggles. She lost her father, brother, and mother in the same year and, with that, lost her footing in life. This made it even harder to imagine life without cigarettes.

While looking for ways to quit smoking, Jo decided to join the CBQ Program. She found it “surprisingly easy to follow,” and when she quit smoking, she knew it would be forever. This is what Jo shared a month after she quit smoking.

3 years later, Jo is still a happy non-smoker!

Tip Of The Week

This week’s tip comes from CBQ Program member Shelton Mulkey from Louisiana, US. Shelton has been a happy non-smoker since December 3, 2024 after 40+years!

Shelton’s tip: You can succeed even if you’ve failed before.

“I was a 40+ year smoker be for I found the program. Just like you, I tried all of the replacement therapies. I don’t know if you watched Nasia s webinar. She talks about mind power over will power. I was very pessimistic. I smoked through the whole program and a pack on my quit date. When you dive into the program you will hear about mind power more and more. I already see your mind power in your post. Specifically where you said that you dislike the taste and the ashtrays. That is it. Keep telling yourself that as you advance through the program. Make yourself believe it. That’s my off the wall advice. I’m on day 59 and still going strong. I’m free. I hope this helps.”

CBQ Method Tip of the Week by Shelton Mulkey

Inspiring Story

Yesterday, CBQ Program member Melissa Budworth from Queensland, Australia celebrated 2 years smoke-free! Melissa never believed this would be possible! She was a smoker for 40 years, and was told all her life she had an addictive personality. Every failed quit attempt only reinforced that limiting belief. When she first joined the CBQ Program, she kept pausing and restarting. She was doubtful she could succeed, let alone be a “happy” non-smoker.

But Melissa decided to do something very smart. Instead of thinking about her future without cigarettes, which was overwhelming, she decided to take it one step at a time. She told herself to just commit to finishing the program and doing her best. She did that, quit smoking on day 10 of the program, and was amazed at how easy it was!

2 years later, Melissa is still a happy non-smoker and has never been tempted to have a cigarette!

“I didn’t cut down my cigarette count, I found that hard to do, but I still recorded every single smoke I had. One thing that I felt that really helped me, was that before I would light every cigarette, I would say out loud….

I am not giving up.

I am saving my money.

I am improving my health.

I am gaining my freedom.

I found that the visualisation exercises, the good bye letter and the planning of the last cigarette ritual very powerful for me.

To my surprise I actually found it easy to stop. I don’t miss it and I don’t envy those who smoke.

This time next month I will celebrate 2 years smoke free. “

Celebrating YOU: This week’s spotlights [January 29, 2025]

by Nasia Davos

Happy “Spotlight Day”!

I’m excited to share with you the best parts of this week: new videos, helpful tips, and the most inspiring success stories from the CBQ community.

Let’s dive in.

Inspiring Milestone

This week, Veteran Mike Miller from New York, US celebrated 5 years smoke-free! Mike smoked his first cigarette at 12 years old and continued to smoke for the next 50 plus years. After many failed attempts to break free, he started worrying that nothing would ever work. As Mike shared with me during his Ask An Ex interview, this is what motivated him to quit:

One day, he received a letter from his granddaughter asking him to quit smoking, and that was the moment he decided to make another attempt. He researched and joined the CBQ Program, took his time in the process, and quit. Five years later, he’s still a happy non-smoker and even though his wife and many of their friends smoke, he’s never been tempted.

This is Mike with his success certificate.

Tip of the Week: Make yourself number one in your own life!

This week’s tip comes from CBQ Program member Paula Torke from Texas, US who went back and forth with smoking almost all her life.

She tried using willpower, but it didn’t work. She spent $500 on quit smoking medication, but that didn’t work either. Then Paula chose to do the CBQ Program, and not only it worked – it’s been 3 freeing years since her quit!

This is what Paula shared:

Inspiring Milestone

This week, our wonderful CBQ Program member Sue Lee from England, UK celebrated 4 years smoke-free! Sue broke a 40-year addiction after many failed attempts.

Sue had a very strong behavioral attachment to smoking. She shared that she was “the worst kind” of smoker… “first thing in the morning last thing at night. If I could smoke in the bath I would have…”

She decided to gift herself the CBQ Program, started watching the process with a mix of fear and excitement, and followed every step at her own pace.

The result?

She finally broke free!

On her 3-year milestone, Sue still can’t believe how easy it was!

As always, a big thank you to all our members who shared their stories! I hope this week’s spotlights inspired you and showed you that you too can succeed.
