Celebrating YOU: This week’s spotlights [October 2, 2024]

by Nasia Davos

Happy “Spotlight Day”! October is here, and I’m thrilled to share with you this week’s most inspiring success stories and tips from the CBQ community. Let’s dive in.

Inspiring Success

This week, CBQ Program member Kathryn Hussie from Pennsylvania, US celebrated 2 years smoke-free! Kathryn used to love smoking and tried to quit many times, but nothing really worked for her. One day she found the CBQ Method online and watched many of my YouTube videos before deciding to join the CBQ Program.

After completing the program, Kathryn smoked her last cigarette with ease and without willpower and, to her surprise, found quitting smoking a profound experience. In her own words “This program is truly profound! Not only does it work, but it has given me self-confidence in so many other areas of my life because I have discovered strength I never knew I had!”

2 years later, Kathryn is still a happy non-smoker.

This is Kathryn with her CBQ Success Certificate:

Kathryn’s Tip for The First Smoke-Free Week:

Visualize what you hate about smoking.

Visualize what you hate about smoking – like going outside in the rain and cold to smoke, or going out late at night or super early just because you need them, digging around for your last couple dollars to get a pack, waking up with a scratchy throat, and also the anxiety if you couldn’t smoke when the urge came!

If you have a craving, compare that to how it feels when you are smoking and you can’t find your cigarettes or you need more and can’t get them right away, and how unbearably awful that is!

And then think to yourself that this little craving will pass, and because of that you won’t have those awful awful bouts of needing a cigarette and having all that anxiety about it anymore!

Inspiring Milestone

This week, CBQ Program member Maria Martinez from New Mexico, US, celebrated 4 years smoke-free! Maria smoked for 35 years and never tried to quit before because she thought she couldn’t do it. “I smoked for 35 years, I never tried quitting because I just figured I could never do it. Just the thought of not having cigarettes filled me with dread. I couldn’t see myself as not smoking, because it was such a huge part of my life and my identity. I wasn’t even sure I’d be able to drive without smoking! When I came across your Program it just made a lot of sense and it was going to be gradual, no one was going to take my cigarettes away from me until I was ready.”

2 years ago, Maria lost her two dogs, who, for her, were part of her family. Despite going through a grieving period, Maria’s commitment to being smoke-free never wavered.

4 years after her quit date, Maria is still a happy and free non-smoker!

And as always, I want to say a huge thank you to our amazing CBQ Program members who have given me permission to share their stories!

by Nasia Davos

Happy “Spotlight Day”! Today I’m excited to share with you this week’s most inspiring success stories and tips from the CBQ community. Let’s dive in!

Inspiring Milestone

This week, CBQ Program member Teri Edge from West Virginia, US, celebrated 3 years smoke-free. Teri smoked for 44 years and made many quit attempts. As she told me herself, she tried hypnosis (both in individual and group settings), quit smoking apps, the American Heart Association, and more!

After coming across the CBQ Program online, she knew it was something different and wanted to give it a shot. Despite feeling afraid and doubtful, she followed the program to the letter, and the rest is history. Not only she succeeded, she also found quitting smoking EASY!

Teri is simply amazing! You can watch her sharing her story of how she quit smoking with the Cognitive Behavioral Quitting (CBQ) Program and the tips that helped her change her relationship with smoking for good.

Inspiring Transformation

This week, CBQ Program member Bob Schneider from Alberta, Canada, shared his weight loss transformation with our community. Bob quit smoking with the CBQ Program on January 20, 2023 (nearly 2 years ago) and decided to upgrade his life even more by losing weight and changing his relationship with sugar. Bob was successful, and his transformation is nothing short of inspiring.

Tip of the Week

This week’s tip comes from CBQ Program member Valerie Bennet from England, UK, who has been smoke-free for 5 years and 5 months. Since quitting smoking with the CBQ Program, Valerie has avoided 69,000 cigarettes!

Her tip: Take it one step at a time

“40 a day for 40 years – i was the person who was like you attached to a cigarette – vey rare not to have on in hand or mouth – then i came upon CBQ – now 5 years and 5 months later i have not had a single puff – not a single cigarette has been in my hand nor my mouth – do you know how many cigarettes that is – that i have NOT had – in fact i have just checked my app and it is more than 69,000 cigarettes that i havent smoked — you will wake up one day and just not have one for that morning – or for that day and then the next day you will do the same – take it one hour at a time – i am an “ask an ex” on a video my story is there – maybe it will help—- from one chain smoker to another – you can do it…….. – trust in the system and do it……….. best wishes”

It’s CBQ’s “Spotlight Day”!

Get ready for this week’s most inspiring success stories and tips from the CBQ community.

Inspiring Milestone

This week, CBQ Program member Pauline Westfield from England, UK celebrated 5 years smoke-free! When she first joined the CBQ Program, Pauline was not at all excited to say goodbye to her cigarettes. She enjoyed smoking a lot, but after smoking for over 40 years up to 30 a day, she felt she had to quit – or at least try.

Despite being skeptical, Pauline did every exercise and every step outlined in the CBQ Program. By day 5 of the program, she felt excited to quit. By day 8, she couldn’t wait! She smoked her last cigarette on the 13th of September, 2019.

5 years later, Pauline is over 70 years old and feels like 20. Her inspiring journey started when she attended the free CBQ webinar 5 years ago.

Inspiring Quit Smoking Benefits

This week, CBQ Program member Gary Richmond from Michigan, US, celebrated 3 years smoke-free. While interviewing Gary, he told me he smoked his first cigarette when he was just 13 years old. Then, he said, “I smoked for 33 years up to 2 packs a day”. He tried to quit on his own. but it didn’t stick. He even switched to vaping but ended up smoking and vaping.

After coming across the CBQ Method, Gary decided to join the members’ program and give it a try. To his surprise, by day 10 of the program he could not smoke more than 2 cigarettes. He quit, and 3 years later, he’s still a happy non-smoker… who has saved over $10000 from not smoking.

Inspiring Achievement

Inspiring Milestone

This week, CBQ Program member Tracy Brown from Ontario, Canada celebrated 2 years smoke-free! Tracy smoked her first cigarette when she was 13 years old and continued smoking for the next 47 years with many unsuccessful attempts to stop. After discovering the CBQ Program, she decided to join and do her very best to follow the process. She did, and quit smoking before her 60th birthday!

This is what Tracy shared a few months ago about her journey:

Tip of the Week

This is the excellent tip Tracy shared with our members group this week: Choose to move forward.

“Here’s the thing – back – and doing things over, means that you will, once again, be in the very space that you are right now. But… if you choose to go forward, every single day is a day closer to total freedom!!!! Total freedom!… where you never have to think about this again! So… you have a choice… back… or forward. Next time the thought of one of those things come up… just say… “I choose forward…. I choose forward towards health… I choose forward towards freedom. This smoking thing? It’s in the past now.” Be firm with what you choose to tell yourself. And say it out loud.”

New Section: Your Questions Answered… by CBQ Program Members

Question: “Is the CBQ Program worth it, and does it work if you have ADHD?”

This question is answered by CBQ Program member Michal Sturgess from Australia:

“100% get the program. It is one of THE BEST investments you can make in your family. More important than most of the spending you will make in your life. It is framing your families future, everything will be impacted by this choice you are making now. Ignore the voices protecting your addiction and dive into the commitment. It can be hard to track the motivation around your smoking, etc etc, but push through it and give it the time and trust. You need to be throwing yourself into it so your brain has the time to reframe, don’t jump ahead, don’t doubt, just focus on doing the content as delivered. It is a helpful exercise in critically analysing your inner dialogue weather you are a smoker or not. Letting unprocessed thought/ cravings dictate your behaviour and life choices isn’t living your best life. I got sick of smoking deciding what I could and couldn’t do, it’s oppressive.

You may have other things to unpack, for me undiagnosed ADHD and masking trauma responses resulted in me having big anxiety/ panic attacks around giving up smoking but smoking is masking not healing, if you are going to show up for your little one you need to work on processing your anxiety/ trauma. I had to get around the feeling that quitting was someone taking my coping mechanism away from me, this program worked great because it is about you reframing your thinking and better recognising craving thoughts for what they are and reclaiming the narrative on your life.

I am 2 years smoke free now (I did the quit smoking and detox plan in tandem, the.detox helps balance sugars and clear your system to support your quit, i always try to point out i did both as i imagine it helped my success) and wish I had discovered the plan before I had my little one, but grateful I was able to find it when I did and now having the freedom that I do.

Overcoming addiction is an important lesson for anyone to learn but especially prospective parents. My having ADHD means there is a good chance my little one will also have ADHD and with that often comes addictive/ dopamine chasing behaviour. I would not have been in a position to help him through that when the time comes if I had not found the path out myself first.

Best of luck to you both, the program will help you shape around so much more than just smoking and will be a useful tool in your marriage and parenting if you choose to keep using its logic.

Your brightest path is a series of small steps. It feels big, but just focus on the first step, then the next, and you can build a much kinder, healthier life for yourself and family.

What I told myself going in was ” what makes me think I am so special that I should be one of the people that fail?”

I didn’t know at the time I was battling with undiagnosed ADHD and feeding myself dopamine pathways but I have learned so much about myself and gained a trust in myself to achieve that I didn’t have before. Give yourself the benifit of the doubt. You can do this, as others have before, there is no reason you should fail above others. You are stronger than you know and it is within your reach to control your narrative.

Aaaaaand I’ve gone on again

I really hope you both find your path to a physically and mentally healthier smoke free life xx”

Celebrating YOU: This week’s spotlights [September 4, 2024]

by Nasia Davos

Happy “Spotlight Day”! I’m thrilled to share with you this week’s most inspiring success stories and tips from the CBQ community. Let’s spread some inspiration!

Inspiring Transformation

This week, CBQ Program member Scotty Smith from California, US, celebrated 1 year smoke-free. Scotty started smoking in high school and had been smoking all his life. He had tried every option to quit but nothing worked. At 71 years old, he had almost given up hope that he would ever be free, until he came across the CBQ Program. Scotty saw this was an award-winning program different from everything else and he really wanted to try it, so he asked his wife if they could afford him joining. She said YES and their lives changed forever!

Not only did Scotty quit smoking successfully a year ago… he used the CBQ Program lessons to also quit alcohol and weed 7 months ago!

3 months after his quit date, Scotty shared this:

Tip of the Week

This week’s tip comes from CBQ Program member Teri Edge from West Virginia, US, a smoker of 44 years who will be celebrating 3 years smoke-free later this month!

Before quitting smoking with the CBQ Program, Teri had tried hypnosis (both in individual and group settings), quit smoking apps, the American Heart Association, and more!

After joining the CBQ Program, she found quitting smoking EASY!

Below are Teri’s tips to success:

  1. Make a commitment with yourself that you will quit no matter what happens.
  2. Trust the program and follow it as well as you possibly can (because it does work)
  3. Stay positive! You absolutely can and will quit!

It works, I promise!!! I smoked for 44 years. Sept. 19th will be 3 years smoke free!! Believe me if I can do this, anyone can. Do the work. You are worth it!!! You won’t believe how great it feels to be free!!!

Inspiring Achievement

This week, CBQ Program member Mark Spong from Canberra, Australia shared with our members group his success photo to celebrate his 1 year-milestone!

Mark was a skeptic who thought willpower was – hard, but – the only way to quit smoking. After completing the CBQ Program he smoked his last cigarette and has remained smoke-free without any willpower!

This is Mark’s post with his CBQ Success Certificate:
